The CoordiNet demo on Gotland

In Sweden, grid operators are obliged to connect all consumers who wish to be connected to the grid. However, connecting new consumers is restricted by available capacity in the grid. The wait for expansion of the grid can become quite long and other measures need to be taken in the mean-time. The Gotland demo will explore solutions for connecting new consumers to grids with limitations in capacity.

Approximately half of Gotlands electricity supply is generated by renewable sources located on the island. The challenge for Gotland is to handle this large share of variable renewable energy production. In good, normal, conditions this causes no problems but in the event of weather related operational disturbances Gotlands DSO needs to be able to remain control of the balance between production and consumption.

In this regional setting the issue is not limited to the need for flexibility and other system services. The demo will also have to take into regard the subject of power quality and security of supply. To ensure that solutions are well adapted to local conditions meetings have been held with consumers and additional analyses of context specific needs will be necessary.
